However, initial monthly economic data for industrial production, retail sales and foreign trade, which are now available for January and February, appear to suggest positive developments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lazardfreresgestion-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2019\/04\/12042019-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10468 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/lazardfreresgestion-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2019\/04\/12042019-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1086\" height=\"588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12042019-1.png 1086w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12042019-1-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12042019-1-768x416.png 768w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12042019-1-1024x554.png 1024w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12042019-1-600x325.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1086px) 100vw, 1086px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><b>OUR<\/b> <b>ANALYSIS<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>At 51.4, the composite PMI index is at its lowest level since 2013 and in line with annualised growth of approximately 0.4%. Yet monthly data have improved: February\u2019s industrial production was up 0.7% and retail sales were 2.1% ahead of the average levels from the fourth quarter of 2018. Barring bad news for March, first-quarter 2019 growth could come out close to 2.0%.<\/p>\n<p>Although history tells us that differences between forecasts based on monthly data and actual outcomes are possible, March\u2019s monthly data will help to paint a more precise picture. Does reality coincide with the PMI readings or the monthly data?
