Fed funds futures contracts now price in three 25-basis-point cuts this year compared to a single cut a month ago.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10797\" src=\"https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17062019-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1097\" height=\"579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17062019-2.png 1097w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17062019-2-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17062019-2-768x405.png 768w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17062019-2-1024x540.png 1024w, https:\/\/latribune.lazardfreresgestion.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17062019-2-600x317.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1097px) 100vw, 1097px\" \/><\/p>\n<h1><b>OUR<\/b> <b>ANALYSIS<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>Various Federal Reserve statements are delivering the same message: the current outlook for the US economy does not warrant a rate cut, but the central bank stands ready to act if uncertainty, in particular over foreign trade, becomes a drag.<\/p>\n<p>The sharp slowdown in job creations in May could be a leading indicator of a weakening labour market, but jobs data are notoriously volatile and other indicators, such as weekly jobless claims, are not signaling such weakening.<\/p>\n<p>In the past (1995 and 1998), the Fed has been known to preventively cut rates, but the moves came in response to considerable financial pressure that is absent from today\u2019s landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Only a significant downturn in the US economy and\/or the financial backdrop would prompt the Fed to follow market expectations.
